Larry Agla took the chance to make a difference in Minto

Larry Agla wanted a chance to serve his community – and he had that chance.

Last week, in his first term as a Minto town councillor, Agla died at his home in Minto Township.

In his election campaign in 2006, Agla stated he moved to Minto in 1975 as a matter of choice.

“I chose this community,” he said.

He later commented he did not  make a distinction between  various parts of the town because of his involvement in  activities throughout Minto,  however, he sees a problem with amalgamation as many still view the town and make decisions based on the belief that the area is still composed of  various autonomous areas.

He used the Norgan Theatre  as an example. “We have a theatre in Minto – not Palmerston.”

Since that time, Minto’s community rallied to bring life back to the Norgan.

Agla topped the polls in the 2006 municipal election.

That night however, he said he was simply proud to take part in the election process, meet more people of the area and he looked forward to the chance to act on their behalf.

A memorial service will be held from Knox United Church, Clifford on Saturday, April 12.

Memorial donations to Knox United Church, Clifford, or the North Wellington Cancer Clinic, Louise Marshall Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
