Land sale provides point of presence for Wightman Telecom

Following a closed session of council on Nov. 19, Centre Wellington councillor have approved a sale of land in northern Fergus.

The CAO was authorized to execute a purchase/sale agreement with Wightman Telecom in the amount of $30,000 per acre for 0.114 acres.

Council quickly approved the disposition of property during the public session of the meeting.

Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj explained the transaction involved a piece of municipal property on Gregson Court.

The property is included within an MDS (Minimum Distance Separation) arc from a farm property.

“As such we cannot build anything on it,” the mayor explained.

Director of planning and development Brett Salmon explained the property is required by Wightman Telecom to build a small point-of-presence building for its network it is extending to Centre Wellington.
