CENTRE WELLINGTON – A Kitchener man has been charged in connection with a serious crash here that left one person dead and two others seriously injured.
Emergency crews responded to the collision southwest of Elora on Aug. 1 at about 9:50pm.
Wellington County OPP officials say a car with four people in it was travelling west on Wellington Road 21 near the 8th Line when it collided with a sport utility vehicle (SUV) travelling in the opposite direction.
Kitchener resident Brian Araujio, a 25-year-old passenger in the westbound car, was killed in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene, according to an OPP press release.
The other two passengers in the same vehicle had serious injuries and were transported to a trauma hospital where they remain in critical condition as of Aug. 3.
The driver of the car, 24-year-old Kitchener resident Ricardo Francisco Cruz Abrego, reportedly sustained minor injuries and was later charged with: dangerous driving causing death, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and driving while suspended. The accused has a court date of Aug. 31.
The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was transported to hospital with minor injuries, according to Wellington OPP spokesperson Cheri Rockefeller.
