KidsAbility walk and run raised $20,000

KidsAbility Centre for Child Development held its second annual 1km Fun Run and Walk on June 1 and it raised over $20,000 dollars – double last year’s total.

There were children’s games and activities, face painting, a free barbecue and a chance to test drive several different brands of adapted bikes.

Denise Watson, the program manager, said, “We are thrilled at this year’s total. Twenty thousand dollars will help us provide services and programs for children right here in Guelph and Wellington County. This is about raising awareness as much as funds.

“We realize there are families in this community who could use our services, but are unaware of what we can offer. We hope anyone who is concerned about their child’s development will call KidsAbility.”

Beth, one of last year’s participants, said, “This 1km fun run and walk is an event I plan to attend every year. We support KidsAbility because of the huge difference they have made in my family’s life. My kids have benefitted so much, physically and socially, plus, it’s a great day out for our family.”

KidsAbility is a Children’s treatment centre, funded by the provincial government. In partnership with families and communities, KidsAbility cultivates the potential of children and young adults who have developmental and physical disabilities. Last year it served over 600 children from birth to 18 from Guelph and Wellington County.
