Winter Adventure Camps are taking place at Apps’ Mill (near Brantford), Laurel Creek (Waterloo) and Guelph Lake on Dec. 22, 23, 29 and 30.
Children six to 12 can come for one day or all four days. Register online at www.grandriver.eventbrite.ca.
These programs feature nature-themed activities and adventures such as snowshoeing, tobogganing, snow sculpture building and animal tracking, depending on weather conditions.
Participants go outside daily to explore the fields and forests that surround the nature centres.
The goal is to introduce children to a lifetime of appreciation for the natural world that sustains us all.
“My kids are really looking forward to going to this camp,” says Jessica Robbins who has signed up her kids, aged six and eight, to attend.
“It is great to get them outside, burn off some energy and see the wonders of nature in the winter. I know there are lots of different family activities this time of year, but not so many for working parents. The nature centre staff are wonderful with the kids, too.”
She added that she thinks her kids will be talking more about this camp than their Christmas presents, because they still talk about their summer camp experience at the nature centre.
The cost is $40 per full day, with supervision provided free of charge from 8 to 9am and from 4 to 5pm each day. The adventures take place 9am to 4pm.
