Junior anglers can learn from the pros at the annual Shimano Take a Kid Fishing Day at Belwood Lake Conservation Area on June 3.
Designed for new anglers between 8 and 14, the day allows participants to try fishing for the first time, or to improve their skills. Children take lessons and then try new skills at the stocked trout pond in the park.
Activity stations include casting, archery, tying flies, fish identification and learning how to catch more fish. Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian.
The event is free for registered participants; however, park entry fees apply to all guests. Fees are $7 for adults, $5.50 for seniors and people with disabilities, $3 for children (6 to 14) and free for children five and under. This event is also free for those with a Grand River parks membership pass.
To register, or find out more information, email belwoodlakepark@grandriver.ca. Please provide full names and ages of participating children along with your request for morning or afternoon session. An event brochure is available on the GRCA website at www.grandriver.ca/events.
