Police can appreciate that citizens want to clear their drives and sidewalks but they are warning those citizens should avoid putting that snow on the road.
Bortolato said in a press release the county OPP reminds residents to refrain from depositing snow on the roadway when clearing snow because that can create a traffic hazard and interfere with the public’s safety. It is also illegal.
Placing snow on a road is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act, which states, “No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without permission in writing to do so from the Ministry or the road authority responsible for the maintenance of the road.”
The fine for that offence is $110.
