Junior Farmers host social evening

The Junior Farmers of Wellington County have had a busy year in community involvement, leadership and social opportunities.

Members attended various fall fairs where they ran food booths and educated children and adults on the importance and role of agriculture.

In October members participated in the Green Legacy program, which involved the potting of trees as part of a conservation project.

Every month the club gets together to have a “social” night to relax and have fun. In October the social event was Pajama Pumpkin carving where 11 current and new members got in the Halloween spirit and carved some pumpkins.

Junior Farmers offers many opportunities to network with people across the province and even provides opportunities for international travel. This November brings quite a few exciting activities as the club welcome three individuals that are participating in an international exchange from Wales and Belgium. During their time here, the club will tour them to the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, visit local farms and enjoy some true Canadian Sports such as skating, curling and hockey.

“We as Junior Farmers strive to build future rural leaders through self-help and community betterment. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to live in a rural setting or even have a rural background, all you need is to have an interest in the rural community and becoming a leader in agriculture,” club officials state.

For all those interested in joining the Wellington County Junior Farmers the club is hosting a new members information night on Nov. 24 at 7:30pm at the Harriston Curling Club. The event will be a fun night of free curling and socializing.

Anyone interested in joining for the 2016 year must be age 15 – 29 as of Jan. 1. For more information or to confirm attendance on Nov. 24 email wellingtonjf@gmail.com or call 519-323-7294. Participants should bring clean running shoes.
