The Morash family, of Guelph, travelled to London, Ontario’s Springbank Gardens on July 15 to honour the memory of their son in the Josiah’s Journey 3rd annual Walk/Run in the Park.
More than 350 participants gathered together for the 5 kilometre event, raising over $70,000 to support the neo-natal intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital in the London Health Sciences Centre.
“In founding Josiah’s Journey we want to give back to a team of dedicated medical professionals who gave so much to our family and to support future families in need of neonatal care for their child,” said Scott and Shari Morash in a joint statement.
Josiah’s Journey was founded by Josiah’s family in 2010 in memory of their son and brother Josiah Morash who died on July 28, 2009 from complications due to a rare genetic disorder known as Trisomy 13 or Patau’s Syndrome.
Proceeds to date have helped to purchase a Giraffe Incubator, specialized fetal monitor and funding for parent education in neonatal care.
“Throughout Josiah’s precious lifetime we were continually surrounded by caring and compassionate doctors and health care professionals who understood the depth of our love and commitment to our son, Josiah,” Scott and Shari said. “Neonatal Intensive Care provides critical medical support at an infant’s first breath of life. We couldn’t think of a better way to honour our son’s precious lifetime.”
