In 2010, the manufacturing sector here consisted of 678 business establishments, varying in size.
While those firms account for only 4.5% of Wellington’s total businesses, collectively they make a significant contribution to the county’s economic base.
This summer, the Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin conducted a study on the manufacturing sector in Wellington County and its ongoing recovery from the 2008 recession. An analysis of the economic data confirmed the sector continues to be a significant contributor to the local economy.
Recently, the planning board and Wellington County, supported the manufacturing industry by hosting a job fair to assist manufacturing companies fill vacancies.
It was on Nov. 16 in Marden and over 200 people attended.
The job fair had 12 employers from the county and Guelph, offering various jobs from general labourers, assemblers, production and packaging workers to CNC positions, specialized painters, various skilled trades and engineering opportunities.
Participating employers were pleased with the quality of the résumés received and were confident they will fill their vacancies.
