Jamesway Manor celebrates 30th

Members of the board of directors treated residents to a special tenant appreciation dinner on July 23 at Jamesway Manor in Clifford.

President Randy Ruetz welcomed everyone to the 30th anniversary celebration inviting past president Larry Grummett to say grace. Dinner include barbecued burgers and hot dogs, potato salad, pasta salad and punch. A specially decorated cake by Jean Anderson was served with ice cream.

Minto Mayor George Bridge was seated beside Gerald Hattle, the tenant who has lived the longest at Jamesway. In March 1988 when Jamesway Manor opened its doors, Ruby Bell was the first tenant. Karen Dowler manages the 22 unit facility.

There is a waiting list of seniors eager to live at Jamesway Manor in one of the 16 one-bedroom units or six two-bedroom units. Custodians Myrtle and Brian Demerling have tended the property for over 25 years.

Mayor Bridge commented it is wonderful to have this gem of a building in the community for people to stay and enjoy the community. He complimented the staff and the volunteer board for their involvement and care.

Wellington County councillor Dave Anderson offered compliments to the board and staff for keeping Jamesway in good shape and operating complaint free.

Following dinner, four winners took home the floral centre pieces – Geraldine Greenfield, Jack Murray, Marion Agla and Alice Smith.

Alice Smith thanked the board and staff for the barbecue dinner.
