CENTRE WELLINGTON – Farmers’ Market Week takes place Aug. 8 to 15 and the Elora Farmer’s Market is taking part.
Local farmers’ markets provide an opportunity to taste and enjoy the delicious food grown in Ontario, states a press release from the organization, and if you haven’t been to one yet, now is the time to go.
“The month of August is the height of the growing season in Ontario and farmers’ markets are packed full of local bounty,” says Farmers’ Markets Ontario executive director Catherine Clark.
Farmers’ Markets Ontario represents more than 180 farmers’ markets across the province and offers consumers direct access to local fresh foods at the peak of their freshness and flavor.
Farmers’ markets in Ontario not only bring city people and country people together, but they also bring neighbours together and foster a sense of community, organizaers say.
“Shoppers are choosing farmers’ markets for nature’s best produce, secure in the knowledge that the food is fresh, safe to eat and the next best thing to harvesting it themselves,” she said.
During Farmers’ Market Week, discover the unique qualities of farmers’ markets by:
– shopping your local farmers’ market:
– enjoying an assortment of fresh local foods and products including fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, cheese, honey, maple syrup, homemade jams and jellies, delicious baked goods and more;
– purchasing a delicious Ontario VQA & fruit wines, cider, spirits, and craft beer; and
– discovering local artisans and their crafts.
To celebrate Farmers’ Market Week locally, the Elora Farmers’ Market will be holding a draw for a generous bag of goodies from its market vendors.

The Elora Farmers’ Market operates at Bissell Park in Elora on Saturdays from 9am to 1 pm, rain or shine.
