Immigration is a common conversation thread throughout many business communities.
It seems sometimes that people are somehow both fearful that immigrants are going to “take” jobs and that immigrants are going to be unemployed and be a strain on Ontario Works.
Wellington County recently held an Immigration Summit to discuss immigration strategies in the rural setting.
Wellington County economic development director Jana Burns said that in 15 years the number of deaths in Canada are going to exceed the number of births – and immigration is going to be the main source of population growth.
The summit, held at the Elora Mill in February, showcased businesses successfully tapping into international markets to fill positions.
The summit also outlined resources available at the county level for such an endeavour.
