ELORA – Imagine Studio Gallery presents Eye on Eye: Self Portraits in a time of Isolation by Peter Skoggard.
The exhibit runs April 22 to May 1, Tuesdays to Thursdays, 12 to 5pm, and Fridays and weekends 11am to 7pm. Skoggard grew up in a family of visual artists and writers.
Although musical composition ended up being the main direction of his life, when it came to the pandemic, he was drawn to self portraiture.
The endless possibilities of capturing subtleties and glint of eye, shading and protrusion of nose, complexities of line and colouration of mouth, all converge to describe mood and character.
This continually fascinates Skoggard.
Drawing can simply depict contours of face, or express inner feelings suggested by features, or yet again, transform mood from one of lethargy to one of fire, or finally, any combinations of these.
Thereby one feels one’s own presence affirmed, a reflection of self upon self, all the while, observing the magic of line and colour upon paper to evoke a living face.
The result of all of this is the reinvigorating wonder of life and self, the witness of the miracle of visual art, and subsequently, insights and reactions of others, as varied as people are.
Imagine Studio Gallery is located at 18 Colborne St. in Elora.
