Ignatius Farm participates in CanadaHelps challenge

Ignatius Farm is participating in a national fundraising challenge sponsored by CanadaHelps and Giv3 Foundation. The challenge aims to increase charitable giving in June, a month when giving is at its lowest levels.

“Summer is a time for outdoor fun, weekends away, gardening, farmers’ markets and barbecues,” officials say. “It’s easy to forget to support our favourite causes.”

Donations made online through CanadaHelps to Ignatius Farm and CSA between June 1 and 30 will generate an entry for Ignatius Farm into a July 1 draw for $10,000. Each dollar generates an entry.

The minimum donation is $3.

Ignatius Farm will use all donations, and the draw prize if won, to upgrade its seedling greenhouse, which is over 50 years old.

This greenhouse is critical to a new enterprise launched this spring – sales of organic vegetable seedlings.

CSA (community-shared agriculture) provides produce to 200 members and restaurateurs.

Initiated in 2001, Ignatius Farm has also trained over 100 interns in organic vegetable production. Many of these interns have gone on to start their own CSAs in Guelph and area.

“Together we are increasing the supply of local, organic vegetables to the community,” officials say.

Ignatius Farm supporters can help by donating and sharing emails and postings on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with family and friends who will donate.
