Hundreds of participants of all ages, ranging from first-timers to competitive runners, will hit the streets here next weekend for what is becoming a local tradition.
The fourth annual Marden Marathon, which is organized by Elora Road Christian School, will take place on April 12, with the start and finish line at the Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre.
As always, proceeds from the event, which includes a half marathon (21 kilometres) as well as 10km and 5km races and a 1km family fun run, will benefit Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus. This year proceeds will go towards the digital mammography machine at Groves.
Organizers are hoping the 2014 turnout will top last year’s event, for which over 650 people registered – almost double from 2012 – and over 500 actually took part.
To date the Marden Marathon has raised over $28,000 for the Groves Hospital Foundation and organizers hope the 2014 event will significantly increase that total.
The goal for this year’s event is to raise $18,000.
The 2014 Marden Marathon on April 12 kicks off with the half marathon at 8:30am, followed by the 5km and 10km races at 9am and the family fun run at 10:30am. To register for this year’s event visit www.mardenmarathon.ca.
