GUELPH – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) recently announced its “Cat-tober” event, a month-long initiative dedicated to providing critical support to Guelph and Wellington County’s most vulnerable cats.
One of the primary objectives of the “Cat-tober” event is to address the urgent need for cat food and cat litter for individuals accessing much needed supplies through the GHS Pet Food Bank, a vital component of the GHS Cares program, which seeks to keep more pets and people together by assisting those in need.
GHS is calling upon individuals, corporate teams, school groups and clubs to consider taking part by collecting litter and cat food and donating them to GHS for distribution.
Donations can be dropped off at GHS at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd., Guelph at any time during regular business hours. For larger donations, please contact ghscares@guelphhumane.ca for drop-off details.
“We know that many people accessing our pet food bank will often choose to feed their pets before they feed themselves,” says Katherine Leonard, GHS manager of community programs & outreach.
“The GHS Pet Food Bank is a lifeline for many families. We are proud to lead this initiative for our community.”
The GHS Pet Food Bank relieves financial burdens on families while fostering connections with local food banks and community support services. Presently, the GHS Pet Food Bank supplies food to approximately 300 pets monthly, making a profound impact on the community.
Collaborating with distribution partners that include Chalmers Community Services Centre, the Sanguen Community Health Van, Hope House, Arthur Food Bank, and Wyndham House, GHS ensures accessibility and outreach to those who require assistance the most.
GHS’s “Cat-tober” event also includes an in-person presentation titled “Evening with Cats: Cats and their Quirks,” featuring Melissa Stolz, GHS Intake and Behavior Coordinator. This educational event is open to the public with tickets available on the GHS website for $15.
