House fire near Arthur contained to attic above garage

Fire officials: no one injured, total damage estimated at $50,000, cause accidental

WELLINGTON NORTH – No one was injured in a house fire near Arthur on Wednesday evening that has been deemed accidental.

Deputy fire chief Callise Loos said firefighters were dispatched to a property on Wellington Road 109, between Highway 6 and 1st Line, at around 5pm on Sept. 11 for reports of a residential structure fire.

“On arrival it was observed that smoke was coming out of the roof,” Loos stated in an email, noting the public was being asked to avoid the area.

“We have Wellington County (Road) 109 closed at the main set of stop lights in Arthur to Line 1.”

In an emailed update at 7:40pm, Loos stated the road had been reopened, with Wellington North Fire Service having wrapped up its operations on scene.

The fire was contained to the attic above a garage, and there was no spread to the house, although there was some minor smoke damage to the home, Loos said.

The damage estimate was set at $50,000.
