CLIFFORD – President Vic Palmer welcomed 25 members and guests to the Clifford and District Horticultural Society annual general meeting on Nov. 23 at the Clifford Community Centre.
District 7 director Kathy Bouma showed a series of photos showcasing events and highlights of the 14 societies in District 7.
One photo showed the floral emblems of each society. Clifford chose a red rose in full bloom.
Bouma praised the society for their events and for:
– partnering with the local Rotary Club to present Trees and Quackers to plant seedlings in the park while the duck race is being held in the spring;
– planting trees in memory of townspeople in the fall;
– hosting a plant sale and a free tomato plant give-away;
– extending their plantings to include surrounding areas;
– beautifying the main street in partnership with the Town of Minto;
– honouring past members with memorial award; and
– canvassing to find 234 members.
She congratulated the society on creating festive wreaths and swags for their latest fundraiser and was quite appreciative when presented with a wreath as a thank you gift.
Bouma installed the 2022 executive and directors welcoming newcomers Sheila Campbell and Lena Kamasinska to the board and Elaine Young in the role as secretary, Vic Palmer as president, Karen Dowler as treasurer, and directors Helen Braun-Kreller, Audrey Garrett, Christina Herman, Elisabeth Kuersten, Isabel Senek, Glen Small, Ethel Weber, Jean Yenssen, and Bonnie Whitehead.
Everyone had a chance to purchase a festive wreath and sample the festive fare served following COVID-19 safety protocols.
The directors created wreaths to sell at the meeting and at the booth set up for Christmas in the Streets on Nov. 27.
