Horse and Buggy Trail groomed for third season

Southgate Township is kicking off the third season of its popular Horse and Buggy Trail, a promotional and tourist attraction.

It is set to be launched at the Hostein park on June 14 starting at 10am with buggy rides, butter tarts and horse and buggy trail culinary delicacies cooked up by a chef from Cedar Cottage Resort.

The event will also include buggy rides from the farms of Carolyn Martin and Clayton Bearinger to demonstrate what can be found along the trail

Organizers say the trail is more than a food trail and “is a unique tour of tidy Mennonite farms, old villages and historic country stores.

“It is a peek into the special world of the Township of Southgate’s Mennonite community and a rural lifestyle reminiscent of the settlement of early Grey County,” said project coordinator Linda Reader. “(It’s) a chance to be immersed in another culture for a day. The Horse and Buggy Trail is the only year round farm gate tour that welcomes visitors into the one of a kind culture of the Mennonite community.”
