Home Child the Musical brings piece of history to Erin

All aboard! It’s off and away to sea in Erin Oct. 23 to 25, with the return of Home Child – the Musical.

Written by local playwright Barb Perkins, Home Child, tells the story of Nan, a home child who – along with her siblings – is torn away from the life she knows in Wales, to face hardship in Canada. Based on true events, the show engages audiences of all ages as they discover a hidden aspect of Canadian history.

The production is being put together as a festival in association with the British Home Children of Canada group.

The musical features local performers under the direction of director Steve Sherry (EDHS Drama, Royal City Musical Productions, First Light Theatre). The songs range from heartwarming to heart wrenching, as the actors tell a story of hardship and triumph influenced by real life accounts of home children in Canada. It is a fabulous way for children and adults alike to discover this little-known piece of history.
