History of tarot part of May”™s Museum Month

Across Ontario, May is Museum Month. To celebrate, the Wellington County Museum and Archives is hosting an evening presentation on the history of tarot.

Shelley Carter, local tarot enthusiast will speak on May 23 at 7pm about the rich and fascinating history of the tarot deck.  Following a tarot tour in Italy and France in 2011, Ms. Carter became excited about the idea of developing a tarot deck that reflects the diversity of artists, art styles and media that make up the Elora arts community.

The lecture serves as an introduction to the fall exhibit The Elora Tarot Project a Centre Wellington Community Foundation funded exhibit, coordinated by Shelley Carter, highlighting the works of local artists; each work interpreting a different card of the tarot deck. The exhibit will open with a reception on Sept. 13.

Admission to the May 23 lecture is by donation. Refreshments will be provided in the garden following the presentation.

Wellington County Museum and Archives is located on Wellington County road 18 between Fergus and Elora.
