Historical writing competition winners announced

Winners of the Wellington County Historical Society’s annual writing contest were announced at the organization’s annual general meeting on June 2.

This year’s topic was “Ghosts, Mysteries, and Tall Tales of Wellington County.” Writer’s don’t have to live in Wellington, but the events recounted must have happened within the county boundaries.

Placing first in the adult category of the competition was Beverly Henderson of RR2, Belwood. Caroline Sealey, of the Alma area placed second and Pat Salter, of RR1, Arthur, was third.

In the Junior division top honors were captured by brothers Jonah and Joshua Doupe of Belwood. Jonah garnered first prize for his story The Mysterious Girl. Joshua placed second for his tale The Castle.

Also at the meeting, held at the Wellington County Museum and Archives, the society released the latest installment of its annual journal, Wellington County History, Volume 26.

The journal contains stories on local history submitted by society members and non-members alike.
