GUELPH – For the last 20 years, supporters of Hospice Wellington have laced up their hiking shoes every year for the Hike for Hospice fundraiser.
“Hike for Hospice is a community event that helps Hospice Wellington raise critical funds,” organizers state.
This year the hike will take place on June 2 at Riverside Park in Guelph, and is sponsored by Barry Cullen Automotives.
All are welcome to participate, and organizers are inviting hikers to register, as teams or individuals, at hospicewellington.akaraisin.com/ui/HikeForHospice2024.
Participants then collect pledges from family and friends to raise money for Hospice Wellington.
Funds to support programs
Hospice Wellington is a registered charity that provides palliative care and bereavement services and programs, as well as other supports, all entirely free of charge.
Hikers who raise the most money will be recognized with prizes for top fundraisers, top fundraising teams, top youth fundraiser and most spirited teams.
The event runs from 10am to 1pm and includes family activities, a barbecue, hospice programming, and a dog show, as well as the hike.
Pooch awards
There will also be awards for the “best costumed pooches,” at the dog show, organizers state in a press release.
Officials encourage hikers to register as soon as possible.
Participants under 18 years old hike for free.
The $25 registration fee for adults includes a Hike For Hospice t-shirt, a barbecue lunch, and Marble Slab ice cream.
On May 2, all registered participants will be entered into a draw to win one of two $250 gift certificates, to the Elora Mill Resort and Spa and Piatto Pizzeria in Guelph.
So far, seven teams and 43 participants have registered, and $4,064 of the $50,000 goal has been raised.
