A public information centre on the Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) proposed rehabilitation to Highway 7 will be held on June 22 from 4 to 8pm at the Rockmosa community centre.
Guelph-Eramosa residents and municipal officials have lobbied for some time for a signaled and signed crosswalk at the intersection of Ridge Road and Highway 7 in Rockwood.
The public information centre is an opportunity to converse directly with members of the project team.
It is being held to receive input on the proposed improvements and associated traffic impacts.
“There isn’t a citizen in Rockwood or surrounding areas that isn’t directly affected by Highway 7 on a daily basis,” said resident Lisa Meecham.
“As a model Ontario community, Rockwood can set precedence by successfully participating in a consultative approach to address the requirements of its citizens in partnership with all levels of government and their trusted representatives.”
Dillon Consulting Limited has been retained by the MTO to complete the detailed design and class environmental assessment process for the rehabilitation of Highway 7 through Rockwood, Guelph-Eramosa Township, and Milton.
The goal is to produce a Transportation Environmental Study Report describing existing conditions, preferred design and environmental mitigation measures incorporated into the design. The report will then become part of the public record and made available for a 30-day public review period near the end of the study.

Mayor Chris White has said unless major safety improvements are made, it is only a matter of time until someone is killed on the highway.
