Dancers from Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance competed in two recent competitions, first the International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance at Walt Disney World in Florida and second the WOHDA (Western Ontario Highland Dancers’ Association) Halton District Competition in Burlington.

Four dancers participated in the Disney competition from Oct. 27 to 29 including Eila and Fiona Gillies, Ashley Elliot and Ella Murray.
In the beginner 9 and under 11 years Eila Gillies placed first in fling and lilt, second in Seann Triubhas, and third in flora, earning the runner-up overall highland trophy and overall national trophy for her group.
In the beginner 11 years and over Fiona Gillies placed first in fling, Seann Triubhas, reel, and flora, second in lilt, and third in sword, earning both the overall Highland and National trophy for her group.
In the same category Ella Murray earned second in sword, third in fling, Seann Triubhas, reel and Flora, and fourth in lilt.
In the novice 12 years and over, Ashley Elliot placed first in sword and lilt, second in fling, third in reel and fourth in Seann Triubhas, and flora, earning the runner-up trophy for both Highland and National in her category.
As part of the Disney competition, the dancers also to participated in a per-parade through Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
WOHDA
Three dancers participated in the Nov. 5 WOHDA Halton District Competition: Ainsley and Kori Stewart and Avaline Booth.
In the beginner 8 years category Ainsley Stewart placed second in flora, third in Seann Triubhas and fourth in fling and sword.
In the beginner 10 years and under 12 category Avaline Booth placed fifth in sword and Seann Truibhas, and sixth in flora.
All of the dancers are now taking a break from competition until the new year.
The Blue Bonnet Lassies teachers say they are “very proud of the dancers accomplishments this year, they have done an amazing job.”
