CENTRE WELLINGTON – Dancers from the Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance have been busy with highland dance competitions this spring and summer.
Dancers competed at the WOHDA London District Competition on April 28.
In the Beginner 10 years and over category Cayley Simpson placed first in Lilt and third in Flora.
In the Novice 10 years and over category Brooke Bailey placed first in Sword, and 6th in Lilt and Flora.
The dancers competed at the Nicola McMaster Memorial Competition in Ancaster on May 4.
In the Beginner eight and nine years category, Scarlette Jackson placed second in Fling and Lilt, and sixth in Seann Truibhas.
In the Beginner 10 years and over category Cayley Simpson placed second in Fling, and third in Lilt and Seann Truibhas and Hadley Heathers placed fourth in Lilt, fifth in Sword and Seann Truibhas, and sixth in Fling.
In Novice 11 years and over category Maribelle McBroom placed fourth in Sword, and sixth in Lilt; Gabby Jackson placed fourth in Fling; and Brooke Bailey placed first in Lilt.
One of the dancers Maribelle McBroom competed at the Montreal Highland Open on May 11.
In the Novice 11 years and under category she placed third in Flora and sixth in Strathspey & Highland Reel.
Dancers competed in the Anna Cann Memorial Competition in Guelph on June 2.
In the Primary category, Brianna Earle placed second in Fling, third in Sword, and fourth in Pas de Basques.
In the Beginner eight and nine years category, Isley Sy-Green placed fifth in Fling; Violet Earle placed fourth in Lilt and Fling, and sixth in Sword; Ashley Sambol placed sixth in Lilt; and Harlyn Heathers placed fourth in Seann Truibhas.
In the Beginner 10 and over category, Cayley Simpson placed first in Fling, Sword, Seann Truibhas, and Lilt earning the trophy for highest aggregate points.
Hadley Heathers placed fourth in Sword, and sixth in Lilt and Seann Truibhas.
In the Novice 13 and under category Gabby Jackson placed second in Fling, third in Seann Truibhas, fifth in Sword, and sixth in Lit; Scarlett Jackson placed third in Sword; Maribelle McBroom placed sixth in Fling; and Brooke Bailey placed sixth in Sword, and Seann Truibhas.
Dancers then competed in the Georgetown Highland Games on June 8.
In the Beginner eight years category, Harlyn Heathers played seventh in Fling, Sword, Seann Truibhas and Lilt.
In the Beginner 10 years category Hazel McAlister placed sixth in Sword.
In the Beginner 11 and over category Cayley Simpson placed sixth in Lilt, seventh in Fling, and eighth in Seann Truibhas.
In the Novice 10 and under 12 years category Scarlette Jackson placed fifth in Fling.
In the Intermediate 15 years and over Ashely Elliott placed first in Seann Truibhas, second in Fling and Jig earning the trophy for the highest aggregate points and Avaline Booth placed first in Sword, fourth in Seann Truibhas, and sixth in Jig.
In the Premier 21 years and over category Emma Horlsey placed seventh in Sword and Seann Truibhas.
Dancers competed in the Kingsville-Essex Highland Games on June 23.
Maribelle McBroom and Cayley Simpson placed fourth in Double Sword.
Simpson also placed second in Trophy Fling and fourth in Special Fling.
Avaline Booth competed at the Embro Highland Games on July 1.
In the Intermediate 14 years and over category she placed third in 1/2 Tulloch and fifth in Seann Truibhas.
Dancers competed in the Cambridge Scottish Festival and Highland Games on July 10.
In the Primary six years category, Brianna Earle placed first in Pas de Basque and High Cuts, and third in Fling and Sword.
In the Beginner nine and Under 11 years category Harlyn Heathers placed third in Seann Truibhas, and sixth in Sword, Flora, and Lilt.
Lastly, in the Novice 11 and under 14 years category, Cayley Simpson placed fourth in Sword and Flora, fifth in Seann Truibhas, and sixth in Lilt.
Blue Bonnet Lassies hopes to carry that success into the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games, Aug. 9 to 11.
