Despite an estimated $10,000 in damage from a fire at the property of Dave Herwynen on July 22, Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton feels the story has a happy ending – because firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly.
Patton said firefighters spent four days putting out a fire at a nearby property a few years ago.
He stated the July 22 call came in at around 7pm for a fire at 5960 Sixth Line in Centre Wellington.
In addition to Centre Wellington’s Fergus and Elora stations responding, firefighters were brought in from Rockwood, Hillsburgh and Erin. Patton also called in fire chiefs from Rockwood and Erin.
The fire was contained to several piles of stacked lumber and none of the structures on the site were affected.
There were no injuries and Patton estimated firefighters returned to their respective stations within 90 minutes of being dispatched.
Officials from Herwynen Sawmill noted the fire was at the property of Dave Herwynen – located slightly to the north and across road from the sawmill at 5953 Sixth Line.
