FERGUS – Eleven Canadians die by suicide every day, officials state.
“Individuals who die by suicide are in an overwhelming amount of psychological pain that robs them of the hope necessary to hold on for one more day,” officials say. “Suicide is not about wanting to die it is about struggling to live.”
In the aftermath of suicide those left behind are often left with more questions, than answers.
It can be difficult for those impacted to come to terms with the loss and to seek support.
Here4Hope, Wellington’s life promotion/suicide prevention project strives to support a whole community approach to suicide.
“It is our hope that these efforts will help to identify those in distress and connect them to supports that will help them to overcome the pain,” officials say.
An important part of the work is supporting those bereaved by suicide.
Here4Hope would like to invite community members to join the Grief After Suicide Finding Hope and Healing workshop.
In this workshop Dr. John Jordan, will draw on his years of experience as a grief therapist specializing in work with adult suicide loss survivors to describe the remarkable pathways of healing that survivors can travel.
The workshop will take place on March 5 from 6 to 8pm at the Wellington County Museum in Aboyne.
