WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Guelph and District Health Coalition has arranged a number of voting stations as it plans, along with the Ontario Health Coalition, to hold a referendum on the state of Ontario’s health care system.
Coalition members are concerned the provincial government is allowing the privatization of health care and weakening the public system.
It is holding a referendum on May 26 and 27 at various locations in Guelph and Wellington County. Everyone is invited to cast their ballot.
Voting stations in Centre Wellington
- Templin Gardens (behind Fergus Library), on May 26 from 3 to 6pm and May 27 from 9 to 1pm;
- MacDonald Square in Elora, May 26 from 3 to 6pm and May 27 from 9 to 1pm;
- Elora Farmers Market (Bissell Park) on May 27 from 9am to 1pm;
- The Red Door (212 St. Andrew St. W., Fergus), anytime during business hours until May 27;
- Habitat for Humanity GW Fergus Restore at 900 Tower St. S., anytime during business hours until May 27.
Voting stations in Guelph
- West End Rec Centre and Victoria Rec Centre, May 26 and 27, 9am to 4pm;
- Market Square outside City Hall, May 26 and 27, 9 am to 4pm;
- Guelph Farmers Market, May 27, 8am to 1pm;
- Water Street Church, 287 Water Street, May 26, 9am to 2:30pm;
- Unitarian Church at Harris and York roads, May 26 and 27, from 9am to 5pm;
- Royal City Mission at 50 Quebec Street, May 26 and 27, 10am to 5pm.
Paper ballots are preferred as organizers want to bring them to Queen’s Park for a visual display of opposition to the privatization of healthcare.
However, people can also vote online at PublicHospitalVote.ca.
