The 2016 CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon – the 15th annual – hits the airwaves on May 12.
The Palmerston and District Hospital (PDH) Foundation and Mount Forest Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation (LMHF) are among eight rural foundations participating.
This year, LMHF will top $1.5 million raised since the inception of this event in 2002.
Equipment for North Wellington Health Care’s LMH site being purchased this year includes a surgery table and laparoscopic equipment trays. Financial support from the community is anticipated to help reach this year’s goal of $75,000.
From 9am to 5pm the radiothon airs on: 920AM CKNX, 101.7FM The One or 94.5FM Classic Rock. Volunteers take phone-in pledges and challenges at 1-877-227-3486.
Interviews with LMH patient care manager Gianni Accettola explaining the impact of surgery at LMH hospital; and with foundation director Bob Mason talking about his personal experience with surgery at the local hospital will be part of the event.
During one of the broadcast’s “Power Hours”, listeners could win a gift courtesy of Saugeen Fitness and Spa of Mount Forest.
Also that day in Mount Forest, Birmingham Retirement Community hosts a day full of fun, including music and entertainment, a barbecue, bake sale, raffle and bingo. Everyone is welcome to visit with residents at 356A Birmingham St. E. from 1 to 3pm as they support the Radiothon. Donations can be dropped off at this location or at the foundation office located in the hospital at 630 Dublin Street from 9am to 4:30pm.
In a press release, LMH foundation officials thanked volunteers who helped at the firehall barbecue and car wash on May 7.
“We can do a lot if we all just do a little” remains the Radiothon motto.
