ALTON – Headwaters Arts third members’ show of 2024 titled, “Rejuvenation”, fills the Headwaters Arts Gallery with unique, vibrant and colourful works that depict each artist’s interpretation of the “brushing away of winter” and the exciting new possibilities that spring brings.
Each work celebrates the opportunity for change resulting in the emergence of the creative spirit. The 30 selected pieces in the show include works in a variety of mediums: oil, watercolour and acrylic paintings, soft pastels, encaustic, mixed media, stoneware, sculpture and fibre.
Artist Joanne Lomas from Wasaga Beach said,“My body of work created plays with a light and airy exploration of line and colour.”
“The expressive lines create an energy that I feel during the first weeks of spring, and an excitement for what the new season will bring.
“With fresh clean colours on a white background I reflect the idea of growing buds on spring plants beginning their new life out of the starkness of the snow.”
Participating member artists are: Alan Bain, Alina Lloyd, Anne Schnurr, Audrey M. Bain, Fabienne Good, Helen Duplassie, Janice Gittings, Jeanne Longman, Joana Iturriaga, Joanne Lomas, Julie Park, Lorraine Roberts, Margaret Peter, Michelle Eissler, Nancy MacNabb, Nestor Mejia, Sue Ennis, Vanessa Hertzberg and Wayne Hudson.
Alan Bain, a watercolour painter from Tottenham, believes that this is the best time of year to paint. He says this about springtime and his painting, “The clear views, uncluttered by leaves, new bright greens and the last pads of snow for contrast and no bugs, speaks to the loveliness of the season, so perfect, so fleeting.”
Kitchener Artist, Joana Iturriaga, said, “My sculpture, is a music box with a black canvas, a rejuvenation of an artist that reinvents herself with every new challenge and every new canvas.”
Meet the artists at the official Opening Reception to be held on March 23, from 1-3pm at the Headwaters Gallery in the Alton Mill Arts Centre.
Rejuvenation opened on March 20 and runs until April 21.
The Headwaters Gallery is open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am. to 5pm, Alton Mill Arts Centre, 1402 Queen Street West, Alton, Ontario.
