It is harvest time in Wellington County and the Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) will be hosting its annual Harvest Home Festival on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 1-5pm.
The event will feature a number of family-friendly activities, live music, and local food vendors.
Festival attendees are invited to try something new or brush up on old skills with a variety of hands-on heritage skill workshops.
The sound of hammers and shears will be ringing all over the site with demonstrations of blacksmithing, rope making and sheep shearing throughout the afternoon. Attendees will also be encouraged to bring the sheaves in with a vintage threshing bee, featuring historic threshing machines and a display of classic tractors.
No harvest would be complete without a good old fashioned hoe-down. Live music and square dancing will take place in the WCMA’s historic 1877 barn. If you’ve built up an appetite, local food vendors will be selling fresh produce, and Melville United Church will have delicious pies available for purchase.
Visitors can stop by to get up close and personal with favourite farmyard friends and learn about the involvement of local 4-H members in Wellington County. Harvest themed crafts and activities will also be available in the Kids Zone.
Admission to the Harvest Home Festival is by donation.
