Harriston Santa Clause parade returns

HARRISTON – Santa is set to hit the streets of Harriston once again on Nov. 23.

This year’s Harriston Santa Claus Parade, which is set to begin at 7pm, will once again be organized and presented by the Harriston Firefighters Association.

Participants will line up at 6pm at Spear Seeds on John Street North.

There will be prizes for this year’s best floats.

The first place winner will receive a cash prize of $100, second place will receive $75, and third will receive $50. There is no theme this year.

Minto firefighters will be collecting food bank donations along the parade route, which will begin at the lineup location and continue along Louise Street, up to Elora Street, and conclude at the Harriston arena on Young Street East.

Earlier in the day, youngsters are invited to drop their Christmas letters off to Santa at Tannery Park from 2 to 4pm. Youth from the Harriston Minto Public School will sing to Santa, and representatives from the Harriston Library will read Christmas stories as community members enjoy treats such as popcorn, candy apples and hot chocolate.

Following story time, A free showing of the holiday classic Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer will be held at the Crown Harriston, with more hot chocolate and snacks just before the 7pm parade.
