The main hall at the Puslinch Community Centre will likely soon have a new – and familiar – name.
On Jan. 16, Puslinch council was in favour of a recreation committee recommendation that the hall be named after one of the township’s longest serving politicians.
The committee unanimously agreed the “Archie MacRobbie Room” is a fine name for the hall, and that a Sunday afternoon dedication ceremony once the weather improves would be appropriate.
“I think it’s a great idea,” councillor Dick Visser said.
The rest of council agreed.
MacRobbie started his long political career in 1973 as councillor for Puslinch Township, and he subsequently served as deputy-reeve, reeve, and councillor. He also served at Wellington County as a councillor, and was its warden in 1980.
MacRobbie was also known for his role on the board of the Grand River Conservation Authority, to which he was first appointed in 1981. He was elected vice-chairman in 1984 and then served as its second chairman from 1990 to 1997.
He continued to serve on the board and county council until he passed away in July 2006.
