When Shannon Brinkman of Heritage River Retirement Residence agreed to shave her head for cancer, it did not take long for residents and staff come up with the necessary cash.
Marketing Manager Sarah Miller said in an interview that the staff issued a challenge.
The challenge was if the staff and residents could raise $1,000, Brinkman would be shaved, and Heritage River would match that $1,000.
Two days later, the pledge was met. In fact, with the Heritage River donation, it reached d$2,500.
Miller’s boyfriend Steve Van Dyke, Scott Weir, the son of an employee, and Brinkman each had their heads shaved, and staff member Sherri Rusk allowed Trends stylist Janis Smeltzer to lop off her ponytail, which will be donated to a company that makes wigs for children suffering with cancer.
The pleasant weather meant the event could be held outdoors, and there was a large crowd of seniors on hand to cheer as the barbering took place.
