Habitat awarded $14,770 from Home Depot

Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph was recently awarded $14,770 from The Home Depot Canada Foundation for Guelph’s Home Depot fundraising efforts during its annual in store fundraising ‘Paper Hammer Campaign.’

The money raised will be used to support the two homes being built in Fergus, and a home being built in Guelph this year. The Home Depot on Woodlawn participated in the annual campaign from May 31 through July 4 which allowed customers to educate themselves on Habitat for Humanity as an organization, and contribute to helping build affordable homes for low-income families in the community.

Customers were given the opportunity to purchase a $2 paper hammer with proceeds going directly to Habitat for Humanity. The store sold a total of 4,223 paper hammers raising $8,446, contributing to over $139,000 in the South District which was distributed to neighbouring affiliates.

Because the Guelph location consistently raises the largest amount through this campaign, Home Depot Canada Foundation augmented the local donation to $14,770.

Guelph Home Depot Store manager Sheila Fildes states, “The staff at our store location have a sense of ownership with this campaign, and have fully committed to raising as much money for the organization as possible.  It is great to see the community at work together getting excited to lend a hand.”

“Community support is the backbone of our organization.  Without their help we would not be able to build affordable homes for low-income families. We are so thankful for the ongoing support the Home Depot has given us within the years,” says Executive Director Diane Nelson. Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph extends a thank you to The Home Depot on Woodlawn and The Home Depot Foundation Canada for helping to support their mission of mobilizing volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty.
