This community turned out to be the beneficiary of Be The Boss Canada, a new TV series featuring Canadian candidates competing for the life-changing opportunity of owning their own business.
Blair Bouwman, who has worked at Anytime Fitness in Cambridge for over three years, was one of two Anytime Fitness employees featured on the show in June.
They were chosen out of a field of eight candidates, which was narrowed down from 25 original applicants.
Going into the competition, which was filmed largely in Cambridge, with portions shot at Anytime Fitness headquarters in Minnesota, Bouwman had no idea becoming the owner of her own business was an option.
Nominated by a previous boss, she thought she was filming a documentary for small businesses.
But as the winner, she is now the proud owner of a new Anytime Fitness franchise in Fergus, which is opening – “hopefully,” she says – by the end of October.
“It was an awesome experience, a dream come true,” Bouwman said of competing on Be The Boss Canada.
“You always watch TV shows and wish that was you. It’s something I never thought would happen.”
