HARRISTON – The Grey Wellington Theatre Guild (GWTG) is bringing a feel-good comedy from one of Canada’s most prolific playwrights to the stage this spring.
Written by Norm Foster, Canada’s most produced playwright, Halfway There takes audiences out for coffee to the local diner in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia.
There’s no such thing as a secret in small-town Stewiacke, especially when four friends who make it their business to know everybody’s business gather to trade tales over coffee and cake. The ladies each have their own messy love lives, but things get turned upside when a handsome urban doctor takes a temporary post at the local clinic and gets involved with one of the gang.
The show, set to hit the boards early in May, is being co-directed by Caroline Wollis of Mount Forest and Minto resident Patricia von Westerholt, who say audiences will find plenty to laugh about as they connect with the characters.
“It’s funny, but it’s very real. It’s real life … It’s a story of friendship,” said Wollis.
“You can definitely relate to the characters,” added von Westerholt.
The show features a mix of GWTG veterans and newcomers to the local stage. Cast members include: Peggy Raftis of Harriston, Briar Chmatil of Listowel, Chelsey Tam of Durham, Sean Riehl of Mount Forest and Jennifer McDougall of Mount Forest.
Halfway There runs May 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30pm and May 8 and 15 at 2pm at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre, 68 Elora Street S., Harriston.
