Thanks to generous donations from thousands of individual and corporate donors, the United Way of Guelph & Wellington has raised $2.7 million this year.
That achievement was announced at this year’s campaign closing celebration, with 250 United Way volunteers in attendance.
The $2,707,900 raised is based on received and pledged dollars, as some workplace campaigns continue to wrap-up into January. The total raised surpasses the $2.7 million campaign goal announced in September. This is the most successful campaign in the history of the United Way of Guelph & Wellington.
Marva Wisdom, the 2010 United Way fundraising campaign chair, thanked the entire community for coming together for the United Way.
“I am awestruck at the commitment to community that each and every donor and volunteer brings to the United Way,” said Wisdom.
Ken Dardano, executive director said “This year, we focused our campaign on asking donors to give a dollar a day for the United Way and be an everyday hero,” said Dardano.
“Companies like Cargill, with 110 ‘heroes’, are making a real contribution to the ever-growing need for social service programs in our community.”
All business sectors contributed to the campaign’s success. The University of Guelph once again is the United Way’s largest workplace campaign.
“With these donations, we’ll be supporting over 75 programs that help people in Guelph and Wellington County every day,” said Wisdom.
