Guelph Police: 11 fentanyl overdoses within 48 hours

GUELPH – City police are urging caution after 11 overdoses were reported here within a period of 48 hours.

Police say two types of drugs are involved in the overdoses: rainbow-coloured fentanyl and dark purple  fentanyl. “Please be aware that these substances may still be circulating,” police stated in a March 3 press release.

The Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy (WGDS) advises the public to reduce the risk of overdose by:

– carrying naloxone;

– never using alone;

– starting low and going slow (e.g., with any new purchase, start with one third of a normal dose); and

– using the consumption and treatment services site supervised by health professionals at Guelph’s Community Health Centre (176 Wyndham St. N.).

  1. WGDS, unbelievable!! providing “users” with safe ways of injecting drugs at the expense to “Public Safety”. Shameful, concentrate on counselling and assistance in stopping the use of illegal drugs and, if users don’t want to participate, and get better, c’est la vie!!
