Commemorate the centenary of the passing of Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae with Guelph Museums on Jan. 28 at the River Run Centre.
An original production by Hugh Brewster and the Elora Festival singers, John McCrae: His Life in Words, Images, and Song pays tribute to the life and legacy of McCrae.
The engaging narrative complemented by remarkable images and video takes the audience from life in Edwardian Guelph to South Africa during the Boer War to a vice-regal canoe trip to Hudson’s Bay to the trenches of the Western Front.
The music ranges from works by Hubert Parry and Edward Elgar to Frog Went a Courtin and popular songs of the period.
Hugh Brewster, author and narrator of the performance, has collaborated with Noel Edison and the Elora Singers on concert performances over the last ten years.
“He was a remarkable character,” said Brewster. “And he led an interesting life that most of us know little about. I grew up in Guelph around the corner from the McCrae birthplace and learned In Flanders Fields in school but knew little about McCrae himself. It’s been a pleasure getting to know him through creating this concert.”
The performance begins at 3pm and is approximately 90 minutes long. Tickets are $25 plus HST and can be purchased at riverrun.ca.
