GUELPH – A Guelph man has been arrested following an incident last month in which a car owner was dragged during a theft.
Just before 8am on June 19, Guelph Police were called to a plaza near Kortright Road West and Ironwood Road in Guelph.
The victim reported he left his 2009 Mazda 3 running while he went into a store, and came out a short time later to see his vehicle being reversed from the parking spot.
He grabbed onto the car and was dragged approximately three metres before falling to the ground, sustaining cuts and scrapes to his arms and legs.
A short time later the suspect entered a business near Woodlawn Road West and Silvercreek Parkway North and stole a welding kit.
He was confronted by staff but left the business with the item and fled in the Mazda.
The vehicle was recovered later the same day northeast of Mount Forest. It had been set on fire and was completely destroyed.
On July 24 a 31-year-old Guelph man was arrested by members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit.
He is charged with motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, three counts of driving while prohibited and theft under $5,000.
He was held for a bail hearing on July 24.
