Guelph-Eramosa residents planning to burn refuse should be aware of a new township open air burning bylaw.
Deputy Fire Chief Lyle Quan, who introduced the bylaw on March 2, said residents previously called Guelph dispatch, but a more formal policy is needed.
Cooking fires and camp fires do not require a permit, as long as several criteria are met, including constant supervision of the fire and extinguishing the flames by 11pm. But for all other burns, a burn permit application must be completed and a $25 charge paid to the township.
A complete copy of the bylaw, which was passed unanimously by council, can be obtained at the township office.
At last week’s meeting council also passed a new property standards bylaw “to prescribe standards for the maintenance and occupancy of property.”
