The city’s Chamber Choir is teaming up with the Guelph Concert Band and several community choirs in an afternoon performance of light music celebrating Canada’s British heritage, and its ethnic heritage, at 2pm on June 1 in the River Run Centre.
“This final concert in our 2007-08 season will be a light-hearted and entertaining afternoon based on the popular Proms series from the Royal Albert Hall, in London” said director Gerald Neufeld.
“We will be performing great songs from Canada and the British Isles, and we are delighted to be featuring the Guelph Concert Band as well as four community choirs.”
Community choirs are the Rainbow Chorus, and choirs from Dublin Street United Church, Harcourt Memorial United Church, and St George’s Anglican Church.
Program highlights will include Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory, Walton’s Crown Imperial March, Parry’s hymn Jerusalem, Paul Halley’s Song for Canada and many other Canadian songs.
The audience will join the massed choir in renditions of some of those songs.
The Guelph Chamber Choir performs five concerts each season, mainly at the River Run Centre in Guelph.
It also runs a competition for young Canadian composers.
This year the choir achieved second prize in the CBC’s national radio competition for amateur choirs which was broadcast live April 29 across Canada, on CBC Radio 2.
Tickets to the concert are $20 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for eyeGO: call the River Run Centre at 519-763-3000 or 1-877 520-2408 for tickets or purchase on line at www.riverrun.ca.
