Guelph Chamber Choir presents Handel’s Messiah

GUELPH – The Guelph Chamber Choir invites the community to its annual performance of Handel’s Messiah on Dec. 22 at 7:30pm featuring Musica Viva Orchestra playing on period instruments with four outstanding Canadian soloists.

Handel’s Messiah is a treasured Christmas tradition for many in the English-speaking world.

“Although last year was my final performance of Messiah with the Guelph Chamber Choir as its regular conductor, I am grateful for another opportunity to explore this monumental work with our singers and period players during this transitional year to a new conductor,” said conductor Gerald Neufeld.

“I invite you to come and experience the familiar story declaimed through Handel’s brilliant beautiful score.”

The choir is pleased to welcome back soprano Meredith Hall.

Jennifer Enns Modolo is a mezzo-soprano who is making a name for herself in Canada and abroad. She has delighted audiences across the country with her clear, unaffected voice and expressive singing.

Canadian tenor Colin Ainsworth has distinguished himself with his singing and diverse repertoire. This tenor has worked across the world with opera companies and orchestras and is acclaimed for his interpretations of the major classical and Baroque tenor roles.

Baritone Bruce Kelly’s career has taken him to many of the important opera houses and concert halls of Europe as well as those of his native Canada.

There will also be a selection of silent auction items in support of the Guelph Chamber Choir at each concert. Items include original artwork, gift cards, hotel and dining experiences, show tickets, and other great prizes.

Bidding will close at the end of the intermission.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque, e-transfer, debit or credit card.

The choir’s latest Christmas CD Carol of the Bells will be available for purchase at the concert, along with previous recordings from the choir.

We will also be presenting a Sing-Along Messiah on Dec. 21 at 7:30pm at St. George’s Anglican Church.

A suggested donation of $20 in support of Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County will provide essential support to young adults aging out of the foster program.  More generous donations for this project are welcome.
