Guelph Chamber Choir presents Handel”™s Messiah

The Guelph Chamber Choir will perform Handel’s Messiah on Dec. 17, at 7:30pm at the River Run Centre, accompanied by Musica Viva Orchestra.

“The tradition of attending performances of Handel’s Messiah has become a hallmark of Christmas celebrations and a welcome step away from the bustle of the season, to pause for an evening of contemplation and beauty,” organizers say.

Conductor Gerald Neufeld noted, “Handel’s Messiah speaks to us not only for its profound musical qualities, but also as a spiritual and dramatic expression of the values of peace and goodwill that we all share at this time of year.

“I have cherished the sense the joy and optimism after each of the 30 performances of Messiah that I have conducted.”

This year’s performance features some of Canada’s finest soloists, organizers state.

Soprano Charlene Pauls has appeared on the concert stage with major orchestras across Canada and internationally.  She currently teaches voice at St Michael’s Choir School in Toronto and has recently become the new Artistic Director of the London Pro Musica Choir.

Montreal-based mezzo soprano Maude Brunet is known for her warm, rich tone and expressive musicality,” organizers say.

Juno award winning tenor, John Tessier has garnered international attention for the beauty and honesty of his voice, a refined style, and artistic versatility.

Bass baritone Daniel Lichti is established as one of Canada’s most distinguished singers. He has recently celebrated 40 years on the international stage.

For those wanting to participate further, a Messiah sing-along will take place on Dec. 18 at 2:30pm at St. George’s Anglican Church.

Donations in lieu of ticket purchase will support the Children First Fund, Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County.
