For its third annual New Year’s concert, the Guelph Symphony Orchestra welcomes star soprano Donna Ellen Trifunovich, making a return to her hometown from Vienna.
The Dreams of Vienna concert is at 3pm on Jan. 1, at River Run Centre. Trifunovich will perform selections from operetta.
Her last concert here was sold out, so promoters are suggesting people book early.
Trifunovich, raised in Guelph, now resides in Vienna with her family and performs in leading roles in opera houses all over Europe and beyond, including Berlin, Stuttgart, Linz, Vienna, and even Kazakhstan.
“The players enjoy this fun concert just as much as the audience does,” said Simon Irving, artistic director. “Clearly Guelph audiences are ready to share the spirit of celebration in a traditional way, and we know that this year’s show will be better than ever. Tickets are selling fast.”
The GSO is a semi-professional classical orchestra, based in Guelph and using primarily Guelph-area players. The ensemble consists of 35 to 50 players, depending on the repertoire requirements, and features strings, winds, brass and percussion. Founded in 2001 with Simon Irving as its Artistic Director, it has given 42 concerts to date, covering a broad repertoire of classical music.
The orchestra also provides opportunities for young emerging professional performers from the community.
