Palmerston Grove Hub moving closer to youth this summer

'Sub Hubs' will come to Drayton, Harriston, Mount Forest

NORTH WELLINGTON – The Grove Youth Wellness Hubs will be bringing the Palmerston Hub on the road to three north Wellington communities this summer, including Drayton, Harriston and Mount Forest.

In the past, the Grove has noticed some youth are unable to access transportation to its Palmerston site during the summer.

In efforts to resolve this, from July 2 to Aug. 30 the Grove will bring its Palmerston site closer to youth by hosting “Sub Hubs.”

Spread throughout different locations in the rural community, Sub Hubs aim to provide programs and wellness services once a week to youth who are unable to access transportation to get into town.

Working with community partners, the Grove aims to provide youth in the Palmerston community with games, snacks and space to hang out with friends, all the while providing wellness support to all those who are interested in receiving it.

In addition to Sub Hub services, the Grove will also be providing Ridewell transportation services to make it easier for youth to access support during the summer months.

“Once we identified that the youth in Palmerston have a problem with transportation during the summer months, we knew we had to do what we could to make our sites more accessible to them,” said Grove Hubs executive director and chief development officer Jeff Hoffman.

“We are so thankful to our amazing community partners, [Minto and Mapleton Township] and the Personal Empowerment Studios for offering us a space to bring our support and services closer to youth.”

The Palmerston site will continue to remain open during its regular hours and Ridewell transportation services will be available for youth to access both the Sub Hubs and the Palmerston site throughout the summer.

Sub Hubs locations and times are:

  • Drayton (Drayton Arena, 68 Main St. W.): Tuesdays 1 to 4pm;
  • Harriston (Train Station, 83 Arthur St. W.): Wednesdays 1 to 4pm; and
  • Mount Forest (Personal Empowerment Studio, 162 Main St. S.): Thursdays 1 to 4pm.
