The Power of Play group here has applied for an Aviva Community Fund grant to help develop an accessible playground for Centre Wellington children.
Hundreds of community improvement projects are vying for funding through the program, which is offered online through Aviva Insurance at www.avivacommunityfund.org.
“Our project is fundraising money towards building Centre Wellington’s first fully accessible playground,” said Power of Play spokesman Andy Speers.
“By looking up our project, community members will be able to see all the great things that are planned, and read up on the progress.”
The project is called “The Power of Play – creating a barrier-free playground.” Successful applicants can win up to $100,000 for their projects, but funding is awarded to the projects that receive the most votes.
Speers said community members can be involved and help out by: visiting the Power of Play Facebook page, and voting there (people can even link the voting icon to their own personal pages and have other friends and families vote through their own Facebook page); or visiting www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf13678 and vote from there.
People can vote once a day, up to 15 times per round, and officials say it only takes about 10 seconds to vote.
“Please show your support for this project, it will benefit our whole township,” said Speers. “It is a great opportunity to help us build something special in the community. Vote, vote, vote.”
